About Althea Wiles
I’m Althea Wiles, a florist, business owner, consultant and mentor with more than 30 years in the floral industry.
I opened Rose of Sharon Floral Design Studio in 1998 and have run it in just about every form a floral business can take: from a home studio to a brick-and-mortar shop, a staffed studio, and back to a private studio.
Along the way, I’ve handled the part of the job that happens outside the design room too: pricing, staffing, scheduling, client management, software, systems, bookkeeping, and all the other things that keep a floral business running.
I’m an Arkansas Master Florist, have taught as a guest lecturer in the University of Arkansas horticulture department, and have been a featured artist at Crystal Bridges Museum’s Art in Bloom. I’ve also continued studying both floral design and business throughout my career.
Over the years, I kept having the same conversations with other florists. They knew how to make beautiful flowers. What they were struggling with was everything around the flowers: what to charge, how to organize the work, how to manage employees, what to do with a difficult client, or how to make the business itself easier to run.
Those were problems I’d already spent decades solving in my own business.
That’s why I started J Althea Creative Consulting. Now I work one-on-one with florists who want practical help with the business side of being a florist, whether that means solving one immediate problem or building better systems for the long term.
